Poppy's Famous Spaghetti Sauce

My husbands poppy had stories about his Famous Spaghetti Sauce being the talk of the town (he always had stories, I swear he had 9 lives). True story or not, this sauce will have at least everyone in your house talking about how great the flavour is!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • 2lb Ground Beef

  • 2 Yellow Onions, diced

  • 2 Banana Peppers, chopped

  • 1 (227g) package Sliced White Mushrooms

  • 1 Clove Garlic, minced

  • 1 (5.5 oz) can of Italian Herb Tomato Paste (or plain)

  • 1 (28 oz) can Diced Tomatoes

  • 2 (660ml) jars Strained Tomatoes (or tomato sauce)

  • 2 Tsp. Dried Basil

  • 2 Tsp. Italian Seasoning

  • 1 Tsp. Dried Oregano

  • 4 Bay Leaves (dried)

  • Dash of Salt & Pepper

Directions:

In a large pot, heat olive oil on medium heat. Add 1 diced onion, and garlic, cook until fragrant. Now add your ground beef, and cook until browned. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Once boiling, turn the heat down to a simmer and slowly cook for 4 - 8 hours, stirring occasionally. The slow and steady cooking, really brings out all the flavours in this sauce.

Enjoy over your favourite spaghetti noodles or substitute with spaghetti squash. You may even end up eating this on its own, it's that good!
